A resident of Ghatlodia on 28 Sept 2019 registered a complaint with Navrangpura police saying that two CG Road-based recruitment firms and their aide have duped him of INR 11 lakh with the name of a job in Armenia, a nation in the Eurasia South Caucasus region.

Dhanraj Desai, aged 29, who is studying his B.Com by distance learning, said that he had viewed an ad in a newspaper 9 months ago about a job in Armenia. Desai had reached the number provided in the ad and a woman, who received the phone, requested him to reach to her office located at CG Road.

Desai went to the office on 26 January 2019 where he reached the accused persons Dhiraj Borisa and his wife Kalpana Borisa, residents of ‘D’ Cabin in Sabarmati. They assured him a job with a monthly pay of INR 50,000 in Armenia at the Company of their business associate, Amit Goswami, the third implicated in the case.

They said Desai that he would make extra money if his wife went along with him to Armenia for which he was demanded to pay Rs 11 lakh which includes flight tickets charges, temporary residence certificate (T.R.C) & work permit visa.

Desai’s cousin Sulay Desai, who was previously working with Goswami, brought him to the workplace. Desai & his wife remained without any work for a tenure of the month along with 5-6 other persons. After three months, when Desai requested for his salary, Goswami abused him and refused him any money.

Goswami had, then, demanded Desai move to Russia but as Desai was not satisfied, he asked his money back.  This didn't go well with Goswami who fired him from the job and Desai & his wife had to return to India on their money on 12 July.

Though Desai attempted to collect his money from Goswami and also from the Borisa couple, they kept avoiding him. After this, he registered a complaint with Navrangpura police below charges of cheating, breach of trust, and abetment.
