US Arrests Criminal Immigrants and Immigration Violators

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) embarked on a four-day operation in Oklahoma and North Texas during which agents arrested 75 criminal immigrants and immigration violators.

Following the arrests, ICE confirmed that the people arrested are from seven countries including Kenya (1), Vietnam (1), Ecuador (1), El Salvador (2), Honduras (6), Guatemala (6) and Mexico again took the lion share with 58 Mexican nationals, about 80 percent of the total arrests. Recently, the US accused Mexico of sending criminals to the country and agreement was signed to ensure Mexico does more at its borders

The operation was aimed at people with prior criminal histories including illegal entry, failure to identify and identity theft, assault, drug possession, and weapon possession, among others, according to ICE.

Imminent Deportation

The agency also revealed that the majority of the criminal immigrants and immigration violators will be granted the opportunity of facing a federal immigration judge before the final decision would be made about their deportation. However, the agency made it clear that all of them are eligible for removal under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act.

A Mexican gave ten years jail term following a conviction for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a Honduran man alleged to have sexually abused a minor are representative of the arrest population.

Commenting on the operation, field office director of Enforcement and Removal Operations in Dallas - Marc J. Moore - said such operations by ICE to remove criminal aliens from the streets are important for the safety of local communities. The integrity of our immigration laws are also protected by these operations, he said.

Moore's area of responsibility comprises 128 counties in Oklahoma and North Texas.
