An immigrant who entered the US illegally will now spend some time behind bars after he was found guilty of sexual contact charge with a minor in Wichita Falls.
On Thursday 24 January, a 36-year-old Honduran man, Jose Raul Ramos-Martinez, pleaded guilty to a second charge of second-degree felony - indecency with a child by sexual contact.
Based on plea agreement, the immigrant got three years jail term with a credit of a little above 1000 days served. He faced a 20-year jail term.
Since Ramos-Martinez was arrested on April 16, 2016, he has been kept in Wichita County jail. To his relief, prosecutors dismissed a second charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child which is a first-degree felony.
He was also being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) according to Wichita County jail's online inmate roasters.
Details of Offence
On 22 April, 2016, Wichita Falls Police Department was contacted by Dallas police detectives reporting a case of suspected sexual assault of a girl who was just 7 years old.
A forensic interview was conducted for the girl at the Dallas Child Advocacy Center following an initial outcry by the girl to an official of an elementary school in Dallas.
It was gathered from the girl that Ramos-Martinez had sexual contact with her at a time when he was staying in a Wichita motel. When describing, the motel, she said she remembered seeing a green sign outside the motel with Wichita Falls boldly written on it. She went on to say he would grab her and continuously bounce her within his laps which made sexual contact through their clothing possible. She likened it to an adult raising a baby up and down in the air as the baby remains under the arms of the adult.
When Ramos-Martinez was contacted by Wichita Falls Police Department detectives, he admitted he stayed in a Wichita Falls motel in 2015 while he was working with the father of the girl. The girl's father said they worked together for about 18 months before the outcry was made by the girl who was staying with her father at the same motel.
