New Zealand Tourists held for over a year visa overstay

Two tourists from New Zealand were detained at an Immigration Station waiting for extradition after they had refused to pay a fine for overstaying in Cambodia for a period of a year even after their visa got expired.

According to the Police deputy chief, the women were found at a guest house known as Asia Happy in Siem Reap.

 Both the women who age are 27 and 37 were asked to pay a fine for overstaying their visas, but they told that they did not sufficient money and want to return back to their home nation.

They visit Cambodia for tourism and they stay back for a year, even after their visas got expired. The officials are waiting for the documents from the embassy of New Zealand for deporting them.

Last year, there were around 4,424 foreigners detained and extradited from the country, as per Interior ministry inputs. They had represented 49 nationalities with 3,978 from Vietnam.
