One of the biggest problems faced by the US is illegal immigrants. This problem got worse when more than 2,000 prisoners who were illegal immigrants were left on the streets of USA because their home countries refused to take them back.
Here is the catch-22 situation: On one hand, it is illegal to detain indefinitely those who cannot be deported. On the contrary, the underdeveloped countries do not have sufficient resources to deal with such violent criminals.
An outrage broke out among lawmakers who hold Obama administration for not pressurizing these countries to permit these ex-convicts.
More than 100 of these convict released by the government have been arrested again on the account of homicides. Jean-Jacques, for instance, is a Haitian immigrant who was imprisoned for attempted murder and released in 2012. When the USA tried to deport him, Haitian officials blocked the transfer stating that there is no proof of Mr. Jacques being a citizen.
Last month, he was arrested again and sentenced to 60 years to life for the homicide of 25-year-old Casey Chadwick from Norwich, Connecticut.
“There is no reason we should have to go on bended knee to ask them,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut. “We shouldn’t have to keep someone in this country who is here illegally but also dangerous.”
