A 30-year-old undocumented immigrant will now spend 20 years behind bars following the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Mississippi.
On August 25, 2018, Valentin Ariosto Alfonso-Arguello followed a 12-year-old girl to the restroom of the restaurant where he was working and made her give him her address and phone number according to Madison County Sheriff's Office.
When Alfonso-Arguello shift ended, he messaged the girl requesting to see her and drove her away from her parent's home. By the time her mother checked her room around 3 am the following morning, it was empty only to see her daughter coming through the front door and a truck zooming off.
When questioned, the girl told her father that Alfonso-Arguello forced himself on her despite her resistance. She was also interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center who found her story to be consistent.
Zero tolerance for criminals
Alfonso-Arguello was arrested on September 11 and did not deny having sex with the girl. Investigators also saw text messages on his phone that support the claims and timeline of the minor.
He was sentenced to 20 years jail term this week, with eight years to be suspended according to the prosecutor.
If Alfonso-Arguello is not deported by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after serving his sentence, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will be under probation for five years.
The prosecutor said young girls are often victims of acts like this and stated the country has no place for criminals like Alfonso-Arguello and will continue to ensure the country is safe for young girls.
