Immigration Tightens Supervision Against Overseas Employees In Indonesia

The latest arrest of five Chinese employees in Halim Perdanakusuma airport has raised the concerns about the presence of illegitimate overseas employees in Indonesia. Five individuals were taken into custody for not having appropriate documents although they were released after firm that employs them showed documents of immigration.’

This case is an eye opener to the Immigration Department for enhancing their supervision and monitoring functions. The immigration is weak in overseeing the overseas citizens. Indonesia would be flooded by tourists, mainly from China now as the ASEAN economic community has been implemented.

Many Chinese citizens are residing in Indonesia even after their visas has expired. And they are about two to three thousand individuals.

As per Defense Commission's deputy Tubagus Hasanuddin, no visa policy is useless when offered to a nation with increased population. Indonesia could lose three trillion income from visa charge.

This year around 196 citizens from China were taken into custody for abusing their visas and resident permits.

As per DG's secretary, Ida Bagus Adnyana, they would tighten the supervision against travelers for security concerns.  We should prevent presence of overseas travelers from minimizing the Indonesian’s chance of competing in the economic field.

There are many illegitimate employees who are not enrolled. There are now around 700 unregistered overseas employees that is around 1% of entire number of overseas employees. And most of them are from China.
