The Australian government has assumed a zero tolerance for foreign sex offenders, thugs, and other criminals as they will be deported once caught. The country has made it known that murder, assault, manslaughter, aggravated burglary and kidnap have all been included as crimes that would get offenders deported from the country.

This new law has also been extended to persons involved in violent crimes such as carjacking, sex offenses, domestic violence, home invasions and serious invasions of properties.

Minors are not exempted

Reports revealed that children involved in such serious crimes are not going to be exempted from the punishment. They will also be deported alongside the adult criminals.

A new draft law brought before the Federal Parliament, demands that criminals who are convicted of a crime punishable by a jail term of a minimum of two years stands a great risk of having their visa revoked.

Here, it doesn’t matter that they were jailed for less time or were not sent to jail at all, the shadow of deportation would still be hovering over them. The current law demands that visas of non-citizens be revoked if they are convicted of a crime and are sent to jail for a period of 12 months. The difference is that the new law allows their visas to be revoked even when they were not sent to jail for the crime they committed.

David Coleman, Australia’s Immigration Minister have explained that this move was to protect the integrity of Australia’s multicultural society. According to him, this bill highlights the fact having an Australian visa is a privilege, and only those of good behavior deserve it. He went further to say that the Australian government has become weary of having these criminals roaming in their country.

The country’s Minister for Home Affairs added that their decision to include minors in the law was necessary because they constituted a great percentage of criminals causing trouble in Australia.
