A UK born man who was found guilty of kidnapping and raping a Belgian backpacker now faces deportation if he makes it out of prison.
54-year-old Gene Bristow, owner of a pig shed in Meningie, South Australia, was accused of assaulting a 24-year-old woman he lured online.
Despite strong insistence by Bristow, father of four kids, that he is innocent and refusal to apologize, a jury in Australia found him guilty of all charges laid against him and has since been in custody.
Prosecutors said Bristow assaulted the young woman repeatedly before shackling her to a couch with chains and cable ties and threatened to kill her if attempted to escape. The victim now wants him behind bars for life.
According to Bristow's lawyer, Chris Weir, he will end up in immigration custody if released from prison and will most likely be after that deported back to the UK.
Dismayed family members
The lawyer said relatives of the accused have deserted him since the news of the horrible incidence broke out. His marriage is up in the air, and his children are shell shocked.
According to prosecutors, Bristow had been planning the crime two months prior to execution, and he planned to keep his victim in the pig shed for more than a week, but the tide turned when the 26-year-old woman found a way to contact a friend via her laptop. Panicked broke and Bristow had to free her as police flood the town.
A prosecutor, Michael Foundas, revealed that the incidence had a terrible effect on the young woman who used to be a very confident person.
The next episode of the whole story will be seeing during Bristow's sentencing in May.
