However, Dubai Police and Anti-Narcotics Department have done a commendable job in containing this drug menace
The Dubai Police made a huge drug bust from January to June 2016. They took 977 suspects into custody and booked them in 748 drug cases, according to Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Dubai Police’s Assistant Commander-in-Chief.
35kg of marijuana, 55kg of cocaine and 42 million narcotic pills were confiscated. Out of the 977 felons, 296 were accused of drug abuse, 247 with drug possession, and 107 with narcotics trafficking. These cases included 25 accounts trading drugs, 60 promoting drugs and 13 importing drugs.
Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Anti-Narcotics Department’s Director, the police made 686 arrests in 2015. 314 were convicted of drug use, whereas 28 with drug trafficking.
This year 120.8 kg of narcotics was apprehended by June 2016.
Further, the anti-narcotics department tipped off international authorities leading to multiple arrests in Denmark, Australia, Malaysia, Egypt, Qatar and Singapore.
Dubai Police organized an awareness program with 11 lectures and 67 exhibitions, simultaneously.
